Welcome to Pontispool Racing

It was inevitable that Richard would turn his hand to training racehorses following a lifelong connection with horses, having previously competed in Eventing and Team Chasing. After 2 years training a few Point to Pointers, mainly his and Lucy’s homebreds, one in particular showed such promise that Richard became a licenced National Hunt trainer in November 2017. Two weeks later he had his first winner at Taunton, followed up a month later with his second winner at the same track. With a small team of horses he is able to ensure individual training regimes and attention to detail. To date, and with the assistance of his professional dedicated team Richard has trained 11 winners and 49 placed horses, amassing £138K in prize money.

Our fabulous facilities at Pontispool include a 6 furlong all-weather gallop, 3.5 acres of all-weather arena, and 500 acres of farmland which includes the XC course and a dedicated schooling field with hurdles and chase fences on superb old turf underfoot.

Notable successes include….

Samuel Jackson (homebred) winning first time out at 100-1 in 2m7 hurdle at Taunton and winning the Devon National 3m6 in 2021.

Applesolutely (homebred) winning first time out in 2m7 hurdle at Taunton. Her racing career was cut short following an injury at home but her official rating marks her as an Elite mare and she has just produced her first foal, a lovely big colt by Logician.

Lazy Sunday (purchased at Doncaster sales for £800) winning 3 on the bounce in 2023 for Pontispool Racing Club.
